Stalking & Shooting Seasons

The shooting of game in Scotland is regulated in order to preserve and protect the balance of the species. Closed seasons provide the game the opportunity to breed and mature.

  • Pheasant – Oct 1 to Feb 1
    Partridge – Sep 1 to Feb 1
    Grouse – Aug 12 to Dec 10
    Common Snipe – Aug 20 to Dec 10
    Woodcock – Sep 1 to Feb 20
    Duck inland – Sep 1 to Jan 31
    Goose inland – Sep 1 to Jan 31
    Brown hare – Oct 1 – Jan 31

  • Red deer stags – July 1 to Oct 20
    Red deer hinds – Oct 21 to Jan 31
    Fallow deer bucks – Aug 1 to April 30
    Fallow deer does – Oct 21 to Jan 31
    Sika deer stags – July 1 to Oct 20
    Sika deer hinds – Oct 21 to Jan 31
    Roe deer bucks – April 1 to Oct 20
    Roe deer does – Oct 21 to Jan 31
