Choosing the Right Hunt for You

There are many different types of  hunts available in Scotland. River & Green can help you choose the right hunt for your needs and experience level. Here are a few things to consider when choosing a hunt:

Do you want to hunt stags / fallow buck and roe buck? – Be sure to enquire well in advance as the demand for this is much higher than the supply. Normally stag hunting is fully booked by March each year. River and Green are probably the only outfitters in Scotland who can source stag stalking for individuals (rather than the more usual groups of 8 – 10) at short short notice……… by short notice we mean less than 6 month notice!

Or are you more interested in bird hunting? We can combine the two of course, although there are some limitations with both around group numbers (email Alex our bookings manager if you have questions around this).

The type of birds you want to hunt: Scotland is home to a wide variety of birds, including pheasants, grouse, partridges, and ducks. Choose a hunt that will allow you to hunt the type of birds you are most interested in. The type of bird hunt you chose is also usually dictated by the location as the different species are spread across Scotland. See this page for more info (includes stag hunting locations)

The difficulty level of the hunt: Bird hunts in Scotland can range from easy to challenging. If you are a beginner, choose a hunt that is designed for novice hunters, pigeon or walked up pheasant & partridge for example. If you are looking for a more challenging experience, choose a hunt that is designed for experienced hunters such as driven pheasant & partridge or walked up grouse.

The time of year: The best time to go bird hunting in Scotland is during the autumn and winter months. The birds are more active during these times of year and there is a greater chance of success. more info on seasons here
