Sea trout fishing in Scotland

Sea trout fishing in Scotland

Two weeks ago we had the pleasure of guiding a great group of American clients during their vacation sea trout fishing in Scotland. Sea trout fishing in Scotland is a real experience to be savoured, fishing takes place through the night and not only is the fishing thrilling, the scenery is stunning and the whiskies are pretty good as well!

Waiting for the light to go, the bats to come out and the sea trout fishing to begin!

Our guests has a fabulous week sea trout fishing on the River Spey which, it is safe to say, is having it’s best year for sea trout catches in over 10 years.

There were good numbers of sea trout caught early on in the week before the rain came in and the river came up over 1.5 feet making fishing impossible for a couple of nights. The fickle Scottish weather began to clear up, enough for the river to go down to get in a good night on the very last night of the trip.

Even with a couple of nights rained off the guests were in high spirits all week, we would’t be surprised if a few of them need a holiday to recover! Highlights of the week (aside from the sea trout catches of course!) include the accidental 4lb brown trout (pictured below) and the accidental 23lb salmon which oddly enough was caught on a trout rod.

River & Green can arrange all aspects of a sea trout fishing trip to Scotland. Trips last a minimum of 3 nights and we arrange everything from accommodation, to fishing permits, to providing fishing equipment and fishing guides. We would recommend that sea trout are only fished by experienced fishermen, fly-fishing can be a tricky thing to learn in daylight let alone on a river in the dead of night!
