Red deer stag hunting on the Isle of Jura: October 2023 Availability

15th – 21st October – Prime time red deer stag hunting – £POA extremely rare availability

 8 stag week

Accommodation for 8 guests in a private hunting lodge fully catered (breakfast, pack lunch and dinner)

Due to a cancellation, this prime time red deer stag hunting week has become available on the Isle of Jura. Hunting on this estate usually has a 2 year minimum wait-list, so this is a rare opportunity, not to be missed!

When hunting red deer stags you will be stalking over a prime Isle of Jura sporting estate. Jura is a hotspot for red deer – the word ‘Jura’ is a translation of the Norse word for ‘deer’. The Estate has over a thousand wild red deer and the island has over six thousand.

We have based this proposal on 2 hunters per day shooting a maximum of 8 stags over 5 – 6 days of hunting

Red deer stag hunting in general does require a reasonable degree of fitness and the hunting at this estate is classed as difficult.

You can normally expect to be out all day. Due to the difficulty of the hunting, hunters must be sufficiently fit to undertake the required physical exercise. Hunters must wear good quality walking boots and have warm waterproof clothing of a subdued colour.

Please note that it is customary to tip the stalker £65 + per stag shot.

scotland stag hunt jura

Accommodation is in a traditional Scottish sporting lodge situated at the north end of the Isle of Jura. The house was originally built in the 1600’s and has been subsequently added to. It’s a traditional ten bedroomed hunting lodge, owned and lived in by four generations of the same family for the last hundred years.

The package is based on the provision of accommodation for 8 adults, fully catered with the services of a cook and housekeeper included.

guided fly fishing on loch Frandy

An Unforgettable Guided Fly Fishing Trip at Loch Frandy: A Team Day Out with River & Green Ltd

At River & Green Ltd, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional guided fly fishing trips in Scotland, and we recently took some time to enjoy one of these experiences ourselves. As a thank you to our hardworking team for their dedication over the summer and to recharge before the final leg of the fishing season and the start of the busy hunting season, we organized a company away day at the stunning Loch Frandy, just north of Edinburgh.

Loch Frandy: The Perfect Getaway for Guided Fly Fishing in Scotland

Less than an hour outside Edinburgh, Loch Frandy is a hidden gem for fly fishing enthusiasts. The loch offers breathtaking scenery and is an ideal location for anglers of all experience levels. Surrounded by rolling hills and peaceful waters, it was the perfect spot for our team to unwind, even if the belting sun didn’t make for the best fishing conditions.

It was a gorgeous, sunny day – the kind you hope to see more of in Scotland as autumn approaches. We might have gotten a bit sunburned (which we’ll take as a badge of honor), and fingers crossed, this won’t be the last bit of sunshine this summer. We’ve heard rumors of some glorious weather coming in October, so we’re holding out hope for more warm days on the water.

Despite the bright sunshine, which can make fish a little more elusive, the team had some success. Two of us caught two fish each, and one lucky angler managed to reel in three. I won’t say who caught what because it quickly became a competitive affair – but I’ll let you in on a little secret: it wasn’t me! ….I’m still a total novice (I take care of the hunting side of the business).

My First Fly Fishing Experience: Learning from the Experts

This was only my second time fly fishing, but I’m thrilled to say I caught my very first fish! I was so excited that I didn’t manage to get a photo – clearly, I’m already learning the fine art of telling tall fisherman’s tales. Thankfully, I had plenty of help from our newest expert guide, Angus, and river & Green Director, Ian, who were incredibly patient and had me casting fairly proficiently within an hour. Their guidance made all the difference, and they were always there to offer tips, advice, and a good laugh along the way.

It was a memorable experience, and if I can catch a fish with their help, anyone can! That’s the beauty of our guided fly fishing trips in Scotland – even complete beginners can feel the thrill of catching their first fish with the right support and expertise.

Meet Angus, Our Expert Fishing Guide

One of the highlights of our team day was getting to spend time with our fishing guide, Angus, who has been guiding for us all summer. Angus has received constant excellent feedback from every client he’s taken out, and it’s easy to see why. With years of experience and a deep knowledge of Scotland’s waters, Angus brings a wealth of expertise to our team. His passion for fishing is contagious, and he was on hand to share tips, tricks, and insights with everyone, making the day even more enjoyable.

Whether you’re a novice eager to learn or a seasoned angler looking for insider knowledge, Angus ensures that every guided fly fishing trip is tailored to your experience level. His friendly approach, patience, and vast understanding of local fishing spots make him an invaluable addition to River & Green’s team. We’re thrilled to have him guiding our clients on their fly fishing adventures across Scotland.

The Importance of Team Building and Reconnecting with Nature

Our day at Loch Frandy wasn’t just about fishing – it was also a chance to strengthen our team bonds and reconnect with nature. There’s something special about spending a day by the water, away from the hustle and bustle, surrounded by Scotland’s natural beauty, and sharing a few laughs (and a bit of sunburn) with colleagues.

As the sun set over the hills, we cast our lines one last time, savoring the peacefulness that only a day of fly fishing can bring. It’s these moments that remind us of why we do what we do – providing memorable guided fly fishing trips in Scotland that allow others to experience the joy of angling in such breathtaking settings.
