Christmas Hunting Break in Edinburgh

Christmas Hunting Break in Edinburgh

Scotland’s historic capital city is a magical place at Christmas. Experience the city’s festive charm with a Christmas hunting break in Edinburgh.

The seasonal spirit is celebrated with lights on George Street and in Princes Street Gardens, traditional pubs are festooned with decorations and a huge Christmas tree is erected at the top of The Mound. The Christmas Festival adds to the seasonal cheer with carousels and amusements, a Christmas tree maze, ice skating rink, street parties, Santa train, light shows, Santa Fun Run and the hugely popular Scottish and European Christmas Markets. The Christmas and New Year period really is a wonderful time to experience this most beautiful of cities

Fortunately, for those of us who love the thrill of traditional field sports, this is also a superb time of the year for shooting. During late December and early January, we are enjoying the prime weeks of the pheasant and partridge season. And, as we work closely with all the major sporting Estates within about 1 hours’ drive of the city, we can combine your sporting interests with the excitement of staying in Edinburgh. The best of both worlds!

Now is the ideal time to plan your shooting break in Edinburgh. Here is an example of what we can offer;

Sunday, 14th December

Your designated River & Green representative will collect you on arrival at Edinburgh Airport and bring you to your 4-star hotel accommodation in the city centre. The afternoon and evening are free to enjoy the festivities and maybe do some Christmas shopping.

Monday, 15th December

You will be collected from your hotel and driven no more than 1 hour 30 minutes, to one of the many Estates with whom we work. This could be down to the Scottish Borders, in East Lothian, Fife or southern Perthshire. There, you will shoot “walked-up” or “driven” pheasant and partridge. In traditional manner, the day’s sport will be punctuated by breaks for “elevenses” and a hearty lunch. At the end of the day, we will bring you back into the city, in good time to wash up, change and head out to the bustling bars, pubs and restaurants.

Tuesday, 16th December

Collection from your hotel followed by a visit to a malt whisky distillery and then return to Edinburgh Airport in time for your departure.

The cost of such a seasonal sporting break will depend largely on the type of shooting preferred, but will be in the range of £800-1,200 per gun, including transport, 2 nights’ accommodation in a 4-star hotel and sport. Walked-up shooting is appropriate for groups of 2 to 6 or 8 guns, while driven shooting is better for groups of 6 to 10. We can offer 100 to 500 bird days, gun hire, instruction and transport.

River & Green designs and delivers premium quality sporting breaks and holidays in Scotland for discerning sportsmen and sportswomen from around the world. All of our itineraries are completely bespoke; designed to meet and exceed the individual requirements of each client.
