Preparation

Practice, practice, practice... every golfer has, to some degree, a competitive spirit and is always looking to play that "perfect round" and where better to experience it than in Scotland; the "Home of Golf". So, to get the most out of your holiday, it will pay dividends to invest some time at your local course or driving range before you come away.

One of the great attractions of golf is how little specialist equipment is required, but here is a checklist to help you prepare;

Clubs

If required, we can arrange the hire of top quality clubs, but all airlines will allow the carriage of one's own clubs for a small additional charge. Please advise us when booking if you require clubs on hire.

Trolleys and caddies

Walking is generally the rule in Scotland, although some courses can provide motorized buggies if required. In all cases, the courses will provide trolleys for hire and this cost is included in the package. Caddies can be arranged if required, but early notice is needed to arrange this.

Clothing

Scotland is not known for the consistency of its weather, so be prepared for cold and windy conditions, particularly for when we play the coastal links courses. So be sure to include woolen sweaters and waterproofs. Also, most of the top courses we will be visiting have strict dress codes; jeans, collarless shirts and trainers are not appropriate.

Handicap Certificates

Many of the Championship courses require a handicap certificate. To avoid disappointment, it is important to bring these with you.

Pro-Shops

All of the courses we will be visiting have Pro-Shops were you can by essentials, gifts and souvenirs.

The rules and etiquette of golf are universal and so we expect every guest to be aware of what is required. For further information, please visit the The Royal & Ancient, St Andrews website.
