"Without question it was my best ever day pike fishing - to beat my personal best once would have been an achievement, but to do so three times
in one day was incredible." J. Corcoran, England
Pike Fishing
The pike fishing in Scotland is some of the best in
all of Europe. Virtually all of the major lochs hold a population of pike and in some cases they support huge numbers of very large fish. Ancient records talk of fish weighing over 30kg, but the current British record is a fish of about 22kg, taken from Loch Lomond.
When arranging pike fishing trips for our guests, we tend to favour Loch Awe, Loch Tay, Loch Lomond, Loch Venacher, Loch Voil and Loch Ken. During one afternoon in 2009, on Loch Awe, three of our Italian
anglers fishing in the shadow of Kilchurn Castle on Loch Awe caught 18 pike; the largest weighing around 12kg!
Fishing is normally by spinning or using dead baits, either from a boat or from the shore. The use of live baits is illegal in Scotland. Another option which is proving more and more popular is fly-fishing for pike.
There is no closed season for pike.
